It just gets better with every day!

Sam and I have come to the conclusion that every day tops the previous one here in Mobile. We thought the Luau was a blast BUT -- we just got back from a picnic in downtown Mobile with our host family, and agree that it was even better than last night. We toured the Mardi Gras museum that featured all the years past kings' and queens' extravagant (to say the absolute least) gowns and robes. Lily, Miss Virginia, and I got the inside scoop from the "Mardi Gras Man", as we called him. He told us of his "colorful life" and about being the Grand Marshal and Court Jester, even at 70+ years old. Look for his Mardi Gras memoirs coming out soon... there's sure to be some interesting stories of Mardi Gras in Mobile! After dinner, several host families were featured in their own rendition of a 90 second talent act; the skits ranged from "Thriller" to The Macarena, and our judges were Simon, Paula, and special guest judge Brittney Spears (Randy wasn't able to attend). Thriller unaninmously won. But, backtracking a hair, this morning we opened up with our "Day of Caring" and a lunch meeting with the Junior League of Mobile. Sam and I both went to Camp Smile, a camp for mentally handicapped children and adults. The amazing stories of the kids we worked with are endless...  Other groups went to Habitat for Humanity and the Explorium with YMCA kids. Hands down, we ALL had a blast.

Tomorrow is supposed to be our busiest day yet, with two rehearsals, a parade, a tour of the University of South Alabama, and PROM (what we all can't wait for -- AJM provides us with blind dates :)  )! So, I'm sure I will have plenty to write about tomorrow night.

    Take Care!

    Love,

    Maggie

    Hi Maggie,

So glad you got to see the Mardi Gras museum - it's one of those things you just can't describe to someone else - you have to SEE it to believe all the gowns and robes.  Aren't they incredible?  Your entries make me smile every time I see one - stay with it - you're doing great - we're thinking of you always.

Hi, Maggie! You don't know me, we've met a couple of times when you were really young...I was your mother's roommate/suitemate at OBU our first two years...she has kept me informed about all your achievements and accomplishments and I am so excited for you. Although I didn't have the success you have had, I was South Arkansas' Junior Miss in 1982 and competed at the state level and loved every minute of it. I just wanted to wish you the very best of luck...enjoy these days, because they will be wonderful memories all too soon!

I kept thinking that I could find a way to introduce you to my son, Logan...he is a 2008 graduate as well. He had an opportunity to go to U of A, but turned it down to attend Henderson State University (dreaded rival of OBU) and play baseball there. As I was looking at your pictures in your photo album, I loved seeing your evening gown from your state competition(I think). It is identical to an evening gown I wore back in 1980!!! Mine was kelly green, however! As I told your mom, times haven't changed that much!

Again, I wish you all the success in the world, and hope you have a wonderful time regardless of the outcome. I will be keeping up here to see how you are doing.
