Today was my first day in lovely Mobile, Alabama. Let me fill you in about what I did today... so at O'Hare Airport, in Chicago, I ended up meeting three of the America's Junior Miss girls which was really exciting. Lauren, Madison, and Jordan are such sweet girls and it just was a great start to this wonderful Junior Miss Journey. When the plane landed, we were meeted by azalia trail maids dressed in huge dresses patterned after the dresses from the 19th Century... really neat! Then I saw my host families holding signs with my name. I was greeted with a big hug from my "parents," Johnna and *** Rogers. They are such wonderful people and made me feel comfortable and at home immediately -- must be that great southern hospitality! They had time to drive me to their house, and we grabbed a Taco Bell 5 min. from their house.. which made me feel especially at home because I LOVE taco bell! Their home is so beautiful... I have really never seen anything like it.. *** said the ceilings are 14 feet high -- it's really unbelievable! After I checked out my room, it was time to pick up my roomie, Kara, from the airport. I was so excited to finally meet her in person, and she is so nice.
Next, we had arrival ceremony which included all the girls being escorted down the airport stairs by several gentlemen. It was so amazing to have so many people cheering at the bottom of the stairs -- it was really crowded and I was impressed by how many people came out to see us! I also met the girl scout troop that will be supporting me throughout this competition.. the little girls were so excited to meet me and I could tell they looked up to me. That was so special, and their many hugs made me grin from ear to ear.
Well, I have to be up early, so I'm going to end this... I just have to say that my time thus far has been fabulous and I look forward to making Alabama my home for the next two weeks!
