    Ad matching

One way my family saves money at the store is as matching. Most grocery stores do this now. Some are more difficult with it but it pays off if you shop once a week or so. If you don't know how it works it is quite simple. Every Wednesday(and sometimes Sundays or holidays) in the paper are the grocery store ads. Just take a look through for items you want or need and note the prices. You can circle them for fast reference later. Some stores do not match what they call gimmicks, for example "buy 1 get 1 free". Walmart is one of those stores. Also at Walmart you need to bring in the ads with you now. You will have to show the cashier the ad. I usually do this early in the morning or late in the evening so to avoid holding up lines. I know what the prices are in my Walmart so I can better decide which ads to bring and what is a better deal. But if you do not, keep your receipts so you can reference them later. On average I save $15 or so a week, not much but it pays for the gas nowadays. Once a month I buy my dry goods and stuff to stretch out my food budget. After that when I do my weekly shopping it is usually just cold/frozen items that I can not stock up on due to space. I adjust our weekly menu with regards to what is on sale that week. I may want steak, but if it is not on sale- no way. Ad matching and coupon cutting may seem to not be worth it but keep track of how much you save and it will surprise you.
