    Emancipation

I have a friend that is 19 years old and wants to get a fedral grant for college.  Her parents have not filed their taxes for two years.  Because of this, she is not able to get a grant.  She has been on her own for 1 1/2 years.  The grant people indicate that she must use her parents info until she is 24.  How can she become emancipated so that she can use her own information to obtain grants and not her parents?

    Thanks

Just to share my personal experience with you, there doesn't seem to be too many lawyers dishing out advice around here. Anyway, Call your local courthouse and ask if one can just pay a filing fee, fill out a form and appear before a judge. Thats the way it happens in Escambia co fl because my friend just inquired about it. The fee was like 256.00, they would provide a form and set a court date. No lawyer needed. Also, see if there is a legal aid office in your area because she may qualify for free advice and/or representation.
