    First post!

Hi, my name is Sam Lyman and I'm Massachusetts' Junior Miss! School is winding down, graduation is approaching, and before long, we will all be in Mobile, Alabama! I am really excited to go down south and to meet everyone! Junior Miss has been a great experience for me and I'm looking forward to nationals!

    Hi Sam.

We can't wait to meet you and are excited for all of you to begin arriving to Mobile. We hope you are looking forwarding to meeting the other girls and experiencing the "southern hospitality" that Mobile has to offer.

    See you soon!

    Day one!

Day one has just flown by! I got up at 3:30am to catch a flight out of Connecticut! It was my first time flying alone, but it was a great feeling of accomplishment once I made it to Mobile! Upon arrival, I had a warm welcome from the Azalea Trail Maids, AJM staff, and my host family. I spent the rest of the afternoon getting to know my family- Kristina, Rob, Taylor, Ryan, and Peyton. They are so nice and I can tell we will be having a lot of fun this week. Soon we were back at the airport to meet my roommate Maggie and all the other Junior Misses. The arrival ceremony was great; every contestant was introduced to a large crowd of people. Later, I met my state sponsor and girl scout troop. Everyone was great- they made me feel welcome in Mobile. Tonight was my night to write a daily journal for the Press-Register. Luckily I had a great experience today to write about! I am looking forward to all the events tomorrow, especially line dancing =] =] =]

    Re: Day one!

Samantha....Its only a day and we miss you so much already!!! It sounds like you are having fun. It was quite a greeting in Mobile. Take the time to enjoy the experience. Don't be afraid to be your best self. You have a huge fan base here....lots of calls to see how you are. There was a nice article in the paper this morning about your trip to Mobile. Be confident in who you are. We are proud of all that you have done. Have a great day doll!!  Love, Mom aka JMM

    Re: Day one!

I'm really glad you got to Mobile safely- we had some huge thunderstorms and someone I work with who was going to Oregon had her flight delayed. And hey, we made it through the key crisis :] We miss you already, but it seems like everyone is really nice. Your host family sounds fantastic from what I heard from mom- they even have the same kind of dog as Cassie! I hope your Girl Scout Troop liked the bracelets we made! Anyways have fun, especially with the line dancing!

    Love, your other half <3

    Re: Day one!

Glad you made it to Mobile safely.  Now all you have to do is get used that awful heat and humidity.  Better you than me.  Take care of yourself and have a memorable time with this experience.  We're all behind you......Paula

    Day Two!

I can't believe it's already the second day! After having a busy night writing my article for the Press-Register, I managed to climb into bed at midnight. Maggie and I woke up early (aka I woke up Maggie early) to go to Bellingrath Gardens for breakfast with our host dad, Rob. I ate grits for the first time. They actually weren't bad; they were palatable, but I wouldn't eat them everyday. Later, we went outside for pictures in the garden with the Trail Maids! We all piled into vans and drove to the  church for orientation, which lasted quite awhile. After lunch, we spent the afternoon in wardrobe, hair and make-up, and talent costume sessions. I can't wait to wear the outfits- they are so cute. The high heels for opening number makes me alittle nervous =]

We began the opening number with the choreographer and the dance is great so far and I can't wait to see how it turns out onstage. We later toured the USS Alabama and climbed into the ship on steep stairs. Line dancing was later! I put on my jean skirt, cowboy hat, and bandana shirt--- and my flip flops! We started with some line dancing and I then I had my first interview with the press. Dinner was barbeque- pulled pork, chicken, sweet tea, potato salad, and coleslaw! Partner dancing was great and the caller Lamar, had everyone laughing!

There is a lot going on tomorrow, including rehearsal and the luau, so I will have to talk about that tomorrow =] =]=]
