Sam and I have come to the conclusion that every day tops the previous one here in Mobile. We thought the Luau was a blast BUT -- we just got back from a picnic in downtown Mobile with our host family, and agree that it was even better than last night. We toured the Mardi Gras museum that featured all the years past kings' and queens' extravagant (to say the absolute least) gowns and robes. Lily, Miss Virginia, and I got the inside scoop from the "Mardi Gras Man", as we called him. He told us of his "colorful life" and about being the Grand Marshal and Court Jester, even at 70+ years old. Look for his Mardi Gras memoirs coming out soon... there's sure to be some interesting stories of Mardi Gras in Mobile! After dinner, several host families were featured in their own rendition of a 90 second talent act; the skits ranged from "Thriller" to The Macarena, and our judges were Simon, Paula, and special guest judge Brittney Spears (Randy wasn't able to attend). Thriller unaninmously won. But, backtracking a hair, this morning we opened up with our "Day of Caring" and a lunch meeting with the Junior League of Mobile. Sam and I both went to Camp Smile, a camp for mentally handicapped children and adults. The amazing stories of the kids we worked with are endless... Other groups went to Habitat for Humanity and the Explorium with YMCA kids. Hands down, we ALL had a blast.
Tomorrow is supposed to be our busiest day yet, with two rehearsals, a parade, a tour of the University of South Alabama, and PROM (what we all can't wait for -- AJM provides us with blind dates :) )! So, I'm sure I will have plenty to write about tomorrow night.
Take Care!
Love,
Maggie
