The Baldwin Pops Band will perform two free concerts in April.
The first concert is 7 PM Thursday, April 24 at the Daphne Civic Center. During the annual John Allen Scholarship concert, one outstanding high school senior from Baldwin County will be awarded a scholarship. Each high school band director is encouraged to nominate one or more of their senior band students to play with the Pops Band for the April concert and for the rest of the season.
The Pops Band, under the direction of Joe Riemer, will play some challenging selections including Rossini's William Tell Overture and Clifton William's Fanfare and Allegro. Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee will feature a clarinet soloist, and Chuck Mangione's Land of Make Believe will feature soloists Dallas and Mike Rabig on vocals and flugelhorn. The band will also perform the premier of co-conductor Dr. Roger Jones' composition The Circus Galop.
The concert will be repeated for the City of Fairhope Centennial Celebration in Henry George Park on Friday, April 25, 2008 at 6:30 PM. Featured events will be a children's march with flags and the "Checkered Tablecloth Award" for the most interesting picnic setup.
